Dr. Roger Covin
I am a clinical psychologist, registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
I work in private practice at Turning Corners Psychological Services in Ottawa, Ontario.
I am a highly trained and experienced Cognitive-Behavioural Therapist (CBT) who treats a number of mental health problems including: depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, panic attacks, self-esteem and stress.
A significant portion of my work is with first responders (ex: soldiers; police officers; paramedics; fire fighters), and so I work with organizations like DND/CAF, VAC, and RCMP, as well as various insurance companies.
Due to my interest in people's fear of rejection, social pain and the need to be liked, I also see many people who are going through a divorce/break-up, insecurity over social skills, social anxiety, and avoidance of intimacy and deep connection with others.
Finally, my work also extends to those who are contemplating a sense of purpose and meaning in life, yet are struggling with existential anxiety.

My Professional Background
Professional Training
I received my B.A. (Honour’s – Psychology) from Cape Breton University in 2000. I then received an M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The University of Western Ontario (UWO) in London, Ontario (2008). I completed my residency training with the Calgary Health Region in Calgary, Alberta. Over the course of my training and work as a psychologist, I have practiced psychology at various hospitals and clinics in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta. I have also been fortunate to work with some very talented and recognized psychologists. I was trained to be a practitioner-scientist, meaning I am committed to staying informed of important research findings that could affect how I practice.
Brief Overview of Clinical Work
In 2007, I began working with the First Episode Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program (FEMAP) at the London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario. This was a pioneer program in Canada because its target population included individuals either experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, a mood or anxiety disorder. I was hired to help develop the program, as well as to conduct research and provide clinical services to patients.
I eventually made a transition from the hospital to private practice to focus more on clinical work with patients. I've worked in private practice in Quebec and Ontario.
Research Work
In addition to my clinical work, I have always been active as a researcher, and I’ve published a variety of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Below is a sample of some of my research publications.
